There is a wide variety of athletic occupations that range from runners to dancers. Each athlete’s body faces unique circumstances dependent on factors such as their sport or choice of activity, body, health history and the intensity of physical activity. CBD offers solutions to problems that athletes face and can help them overcome physical obstacles that may prohibit them from reaching their greatest potential. A major problem athletes face is the after effects their sport has on their body. After athletes retire or decrease the intensity from their sport, it is common for their body to remind them of all the stress it endured internally and externally both during and after physical activity.

Currently, there is little research that directly analyzes the impact of CBD on athletes; however, there are studies focused on other CBD topics that are commonly used to create conclusions about how CBD is relevant to athletes. According to a 2020 article, “CBD may exert a number of physiological, biochemical, and psychological effects with the potential to benefit athletes.” There is also preliminary supportive evidence for anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, analgesic, and anxiolytic actions of CBD and the possibility it may protect against GI damage associated with inflammation and encourage the healing of traumatic skeletal injuries. All of which is directly relevant to the life of an athlete.

Inflammation can be acute (short-lived) or chronic (long-term) and athletes are at risk for both because of the consistently intense use of their body. In terms of their neurological health, concussions are commonly seen in athletes and can cause negative life-long circumstances for them. A benefit of CBD is that it is a non-psychoactive treatment for pain, which is convenient for athletes who want to feel good and play good without sacrificing their mental state. The World Anti-Doping Agency, sourced out of Canada, is initiated by the international Olympic Committee and coordinates and monitors the fight against drugs in sports. They removed CBD from their list of prohibited substances; however, it is important that each athlete research the laws specifically related to them because this is not the reality for every sport organization or company.

Whether it be professional or recreational, physical activity is more fun when there is comfort, and the body is healthy and happy. The JuJu Royal Comfort Salve is a popular favorite among athletes and those who enjoy movin’ and groovin’. Julian Marley prefers to use it for his ankles to relieve pain and discomfort. It contains 300mg of hemp extract and a balanced blend of cinnamon bark, clove, lemon, peppermint and lavender oils. This topical is adventure friendly and comes in a sleek container that can travel wherever your athlete journey may take you!
