When it comes to travelling across borders both near and far with CBD, laws and rules can easily become confusing and complicated. It is important to be aware and educated about the laws concerning CBD for where you are travelling because they are all different and always changing.

Travelling Domestically with CBD:

CBD oil sourced from hemp oil is legal according to the 2018 Farm Bill on the federal level. This means that CBD can be taken across domestic borders and on flights. CBD oil derived from marijuana remains illegal in some states, so it is not recommended to travel with this type of CBD oil. JuJu Royal products are legal in all 50 states!

Only hemp derived CBD oil with less than 0.3% THC can be transported across borders and on flights. Although CBD oil is legal on a federal level, each state has their own laws regarding its possession. As long as the quantity of CBD oil (from the hemp plant) is 100 ml or less, it can legally be transported in both carry-on and checked luggage.

According to the TSA, “Marijuana and certain cannabis infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA.” The TSA will make the final judgement about what they will accept at the airport. Tip: Hemp flower and cannabis flower are very similar in appearance and this makes it difficult to differentiate the products without the lab results, so it is not recommended to travel with this form of CBD.

Travelling Abroad with CBD:

Travelling to other countries with CBD becomes more complicated because laws and regulations are uniquely related to the country and place where you are travelling. It is important to research the laws specifically concerning CBD for the places you are travelling through and to. When in doubt it is safer to not travel with CBD or other related products if you have any concern about their legality.

How you choose to travel is equally as important to what CBD products you possess because who evaluates the authenticity and validity of your CBD products depends on how you travel. If travelling via water, check-in with the cruise or ship line so that you can confirm the laws related to your CBD products. When traveling on a plane, keep up to date with TSA regulations. If travelling by car or vehicle be aware of the different laws in the states through which you will be travelling even if you don’t plan on stopping there. Tip: Feel more secure travelling with CBD by also having the products COAs, which validate the product.
